February 2012 Monthly Meeting.

Date: Thursday February 9, 2012
Time:
7:00 PM
Speaker:
Dan Garnett, Principal Sales Consultant, Oracle

Topic: Oracle Database Appliance

There are many types of computer appliances in the market today -- storage, network, anti-spam, virtual machine, mobile (iPhone), etc., all with the goal to provide unique capabilities and features by tightly integrating hardware, software and firmware. Over the last 4 years, Oracle has produced a series of engineered systems that cover databases, middleware and analytics. In 2008, Oracle launched Exadata, its first database machine for data warehouses. A year later, Oracle released Exadata Version 2 which was the first OLTP database machine. And just recently (Sep 2011), it has introduced the Oracle Database Appliance (ODA), an affordable, reliable and easy-to-use engineered system targeted for partners, small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) and departments of large companies. This presentation will address the following questions: what is ODA, what unique capabilities does it possess, what value does it offer an IT organization and ISV and what use cases does it cover. The database environment deployment and database creation steps will be covered to show how a high availability database can be stood up in less than 2 hours. Through this presentation, you should gain a deeper understanding of the benefits and trade-offs associated with a database appliance.

New Location information.

The meeting will be held at  the BIAS Corporation office (Same building as Oracle).

1100 Abernathy Rd.
